This Place Where You Can Dream

With writer and author coach Julia Forster

“It’s a time to drop in and to connect, as well as to produce. A time to dream is partly what this space is about… That was always the intention behind creating something like this.”

This is an episode with a view: sitting at the top of a breathtaking valley, tucked into the Powys hills, I talk to Julia Forster - the person who fell in love with this place and wanted to share it with others. More specifically, with other creatives. Today we’re talking about the power of the writer’s retreat, as I come to the end of my own week staying - and writing - in this remarkable place.

Julia Forster is an author coach, book publicist and author who runs the Writers’ Cabin, a self-led writer's retreat just outside Machynlleth, mid-Wales. Her specialism and lifelong interest is the field of writer development, and since 2020 she has been the Co-Director of Being A Writer for The Literary Consultancy. She is the author of What a Way to Go (Atlantic Books) and Muses (Oldcastle Books).

You can find out more about Julia and her retreat at Write Within.

My time at the Writers’ Cabin back in September was unforgettable, and I know many more visitors have felt the magic of this place work on them, too, since. As a creative, and a coach herself, Julia is also full of insight into how we can nurture our practices and give ourselves the time and space we need to achieve our goals.

This, the penultimate episode of This Place, is one of the most inspiring yet: a gentle conversation amid this peaceful haven, as the sun lifts the dew from the grass and the day warms into a last burst of late summer: the perfect way to end my writing retreat here.

I really hope you enjoy this episode - let your friends know about it if you do. And I’ll catch you in July for the last installment of this little series.

With love,

Kathryn x
